Alpine Gentiana Botanical Wall Collection, Set of 10, Antique Chromolithos, 1897
Description:
A beautifully curated collection of ten antique alpine botanical chromolithographs, featuring a range of Gentiana species native to the European mountain regions.
Each print presents a single specimen with remarkable clarity and restraint, roots, stems, and blossoms rendered with both scientific precision and quiet artistry. Set against softly aged, warm-toned grounds, the compositions possess a natural elegance that feels both timeless and atmospheric.
As a group, the works create a refined visual rhythm. Subtle variations in structure and hue, from deep indigo blues to muted greens and earthy ochres, offer balance without excess, making the set particularly well suited to calm, design-led interiors.
Ideal for a chalet, study, or understated contemporary space, these prints function as both decorative elements and intimate studies of alpine flora. Their smaller scale invites close viewing and lends itself beautifully to curated wall arrangements.
Austria, circa 1897.
Condition:
Overall very good condition consistent with age. The prints show gentle, even toning to the paper, contributing to their warm patina. Minor edge wear and occasional soft creasing are present, as expected for works of this period. Colors remain well-preserved with no significant fading. Each sheet retains its original margins and printed captions.
Dimensions:
Each: approx. 19 × 15 cm (7.5 × 5.9 inches)
Framing Suggestions:
These works are particularly effective when framed with a wide ivory or soft off-white mat, allowing the delicate compositions to breathe and enhancing their sense of refinement.
We recommend dark walnut or ebonized frames for a classic alpine or chalet aesthetic, or natural oak for a lighter, more contemporary interior. Simple, thin profiles work best to maintain a clean and elegant presentation.
Arrangements such as grid formations or balanced salon-style layouts complement the intimate scale of the prints.
Important Note:
Please note: these are small-format botanical prints (approx. 19 × 15 cm / 7.5 × 5.9 inches each). The interior mockups are for visual inspiration only and do not represent the exact scale.
