Description:

This botanical engraving illustrates two aloe species, Aloe socotrina and Aloe vulgaris, valued for medicinal resins. The plate includes flowering stalks and leaf structure.

Issued in Zenker’s Merkantilische Waarenkunde, the image documents medicinal plants essential to pharmacy and trade.

Original hand coloring is crisp, with strong contrast between leaves and flowers.
