Title: Antique Botanical Wall Art Pair, Purple Knapweed & Bitterroot, London 1874
Description:
This attractive pair of original 19th-century botanical prints was published in London in 1874 and features finely rendered studies of flowering plants, printed with Latin captions and delicately hand-colored. These are authentic antique botanical prints, not reproductions or later copies.
The plants depicted are:
– Purple Knapweed (Centaurea phrygia)
– Bitterroot and Bellflower (Lewisia rediviva and Campanula longifolia)
Each composition is presented against a clean, open background, allowing the elegant forms of the flowers and foliage to stand out clearly. The soft purple and pink tones, combined with fresh greens, give the pair a calm, decorative quality that works exceptionally well in interior settings.
Originally produced for a scientific botanical publication, the prints balance botanical accuracy with strong visual appeal. Displayed together, they form a harmonious decorative pair, ideal for framing side by side or as part of a larger botanical grouping.
Printed on original period paper, the sheets retain the subtle warmth and texture typical of Victorian botanical works. Their vertical format and refined scale make them especially suitable for bedrooms, hallways, studies, or curated gallery walls.
Dimensions:
Each print approximately 10 x 6.7 inches (25.4 x 17 cm). Slight variations in size due to original production and trimming.
