Billbergia liboniana De Jongh, a color lithograph of a Brazilian bromeliad, issued as a plate in a Ghent horticultural work and credited to van Houtte. The plant name and its authority are lettered below the image, with "Bresil" at the left and "Serre chaude" at the right.
The plant stands in a rosette of broad, pale gray-green leaves with spined edges, rising from a base of brown scales and roots. A pendant flower spike descends in front of the leaves, with narrow tubular flowers in bright orange-red that shade through white into deep blue at the tips, and long, slender red bracts. Two offsets are drawn at the lower right and left of the plant.
Billbergia liboniana is a bromeliad of the Brazilian forest, and the lettering "Serre chaude" marks it as a plant for the hothouse in Europe. The name honors Libon, the collector who sent it to Belgium from Brazil.
