Title: Original Antique Botanical Chromolithograph of Pride of Burma, c. 1880
Description:
A magnificent original antique botanical chromolithograph depicting Amherstia nobilis Wall., universally known as the Pride of Burma and often celebrated as the "Queen of Flowering Trees." Regarded as one of the most spectacular flowering trees in the tropics, Amherstia nobilis is renowned for its cascading crimson blossoms with golden-yellow accents and elegant evergreen foliage. Native to Myanmar (formerly Burma), it has long been cultivated throughout tropical Asia as one of the world's most ornamental trees.
This beautifully composed plate illustrates the dramatic pendulous inflorescences together with botanical details of the seed pod and floral structure, combining scientific precision with outstanding decorative appeal.
The artwork was painted from life by the distinguished Dutch botanical artist Berthe Hoola van Nooten (1817 to 1892) while living on the island of Java. It was published in her celebrated masterpiece, Fleurs, Fruits et Feuillages Choisis de l'Ile de Java, one of the finest nineteenth-century botanical publications devoted to the flora of the Dutch East Indies. The plate was printed in rich chromolithography by P. De Pannemaeker of Ghent and issued in the third edition published in Brussels by Librairie Européenne C. Muquardt around 1880.
This is an original antique print, printed circa 1880, and not a modern reproduction or later copy.
