Title: Alpine Gentian Botanical Prints Set, Antique Chromolithographs c.1897
A beautifully curated group of antique Alpine botanical prints, featuring delicate studies of Gentiana species rendered in rich, naturalistic color. Produced around the turn of the 20th century, these chromolithographs capture the refined elegance of European scientific illustration, where botanical accuracy meets decorative appeal.
Each composition isolates the plant against a softly toned background, allowing the vivid blues, yellows, and purples of the gentians to stand out with striking clarity. The detailed depiction of roots, stems, and blossoms reflects the period’s dedication to both scientific study and aesthetic refinement. Subtle aging of the paper lends a warm patina that enhances their charm and authenticity.
As a group, these prints work exceptionally well as a decorative arrangement. Whether displayed as a grid or salon-style composition, they bring a quiet sophistication and organic rhythm to an interior. Particularly suited for chalet, country house, or modern natural interiors, they offer a refined nod to Alpine flora and European design heritage.
Please note: these are small-format botanical prints (approx. 19 × 15 cm / 7.5 × 5.9 inches each). Any interior images shown are for visual inspiration only and do not represent the exact scale.
Condition: Good condition overall with age-related toning and light spotting. Some minor edge wear and occasional small imperfections consistent with handling and original binding. Paper remains stable and colors are well preserved.
Framing tips: These prints benefit from generous museum-style matting to enhance their presence on the wall. Consider warm off-white or light ivory mats paired with a dark walnut or ebonized frame for a classic look, or a lighter oak frame for a softer, contemporary Alpine aesthetic.
Technique: Chromolithograph
Maker: European School, circa 1897
